Location: Bridge City, TX
Pay: $15.50 per hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 6:15 AM – 12:00 PM & 2:30 PM – 4:45 PM
Type: Full-Time | Temp-to-Hire
Dress Code: Work pants, solid T-shirt, work shoes
Requirements: Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B), ability to lift heavy equipment, pass alcohol/drug testing and required bus driver safety training
Experience: No experience required

Position Summary

A local organization in Bridge City is seeking a Mechanic Helper to assist with minor mechanical repairs, vehicle maintenance, and preventive service. This role works under the guidance of senior mechanics to support safe and efficient vehicle operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with minor mechanical repairs and diagnostics on district vehicles

  • Support lead mechanics with major repairs

  • Perform preventive maintenance: rotate/balance tires, change oil and filters, lubricate parts, inspect and replace hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps, and maintain fluid levels

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and service

  • Operate buses and district vehicles as needed

  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe work environment

  • Work irregular hours when required

Requirements

  • Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B)

  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts

  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug testing and bus driver safety training

  • Acceptable driving record

  • Mechanically inclined and able to use tools and equipment safely

  • Dependable and able to follow instructions

Equipment Used

Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repair tools, hand/power tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jacks and lifts, school buses, and district vehicles.

Working Conditions

  • Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, and reaching

  • Work indoors and outdoors around moving vehicles and machinery

  • Exposure to humidity, chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel

  • Irregular hours as needed
